The book Coraline follows a similar pattern to brainwashing attempts on prisoners of war where the individual initially wants to leave but has been captured against their will where as in the movie the Beldam or other mother is much more subtle and operates similar to how cults use love bombing to make individuals not want to leave in the beginning.  Cocaine follows the D model of early research on brainwashing or mind control.  Vigilant citizen also wrote an interesting article on coraline and the use of ritualistic abuse for psychological programming compared to project MK Ultra which was a declassified CIA project found in a Senate committee led by Senator Frank Church.  Anyone who doubts the existence of MK Ultra is so paranoid and distrusting of the American government that they believe their own government would put out false information about itself incriminating itself in order to make people distrust itself.  Additional fiction movies you may like  if you are interested in this topic include, moonchild, ticket to heaven and split image.

On December 14, 2008, Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi threw both of his shoes at United States President George W. Bush during an Iraqi press conference. Bush ducked, avoiding being hit by either of the shoes. The second shoe hit the US flag, and Al-Zaidi was subsequently grabbed, kicked, and hurried out of the room by guards. Effigies of many United States Presidents had long appeared with shoes on them all over the Middle East,^[1] but it was not until this event that shoeing had received widespread notability. Since then, there have been many other shoeing incidents on an international scale.
